STUDY THE RENAISSANCE WHERE IT HAPPENED 

ITALY, SWITZERLAND, GERMANY, THE NETHERLANDS 
JUNE 1-16, 2017   


JOIN US for a grand adventure traveling from Florence, Italy, where the Renaissance began, across central Europe.  We will follow in the footsteps of some of Europe's most influential people, tracing the massive historical and ideological shifts of the Renaissance and Reformation.



ITINERARY 

January 2017- Study begins: reading, watching films, and writing short papers. We will meet once a month on WSU's campus, for two hours of lecture and discussion on the Renaissance and Reformation. Knowing everything about what you're going to see BEFORE you go magnifies the experience tenfold.



June 1 Fly from SLC to Florence, Italy

June 2 Arrive in Florence.  Walking tour of historic Florence, including Duomo, Baptistry and Piazza Della Signoria



June 3 Florence: Medici Family Palace, San Marco Monastery and Botanical Gardens



June 4 Florence: Uffizi Gallery, Town Hall and Machiavelli's Office


June 5 Vicenza: Walking tour of historic Vicenza, Palladio architecture, Theatro Olympico



June 6 Vicenza: Hiking excursion to Palladio villas and vineyards around Vicenza


June 7 Venice: Vaparetto cruise on canals, San Marco Basilica


June 8 Verona: Ancient Arena, Castle Museum, Giadarno Guisti, Juliet's Balcony


June 9 Travel to Basel, Switzerland via the Alps


June 10 Basel: Basel University and Erasmus Sites















June 11 Basel: Munster, Old Town; travel to Germany


June 12 Worms, Germany: Diet of Worms site (where Martin Luther was ordered to recant), Cathedral, Reformation Memorial


June 13 Heidelberg, Germany: Philosopher's Way, Cathedral, Apothecary Museum


June 14 Mainz, Germany: Gutenberg Press Museum


June 15 Amsterdam, The Netherlands: Rijksmuseum.  Evening travel to Den Bosch for evening Hieronymus Bosch river parade


June 16 Flight from Amsterdam to SLC


July 8 Handbooks and final papers due

Academics: This course is 6 credit hours.  Students can choose from the following:
History 4720 (3), Philosophy 2920 (3), Honors 2120 (3), Honors 2110 (3)

Cost: $3,980 per person, includes everything but lunches, dinners, passport.  Anything that pays for regular study pays for study abroad (e.g., grants, loans, scholarships).  To determine your personal options, visit WSU's Financial Aid Office.

To Register: This course will open for registration August 29.  Study Abroad courses are open to all WSU students regardless of major, AND the general public.  Reserve your spot by filling out the application form available HERE, and bring it to room 110 of the Hurst Center at WSU with a $500 nonrefundable deposit to secure your spot.
